How it all began…
On November 1, 2002, cramped into a space slightly smaller
than a postage stamp in Downtown Charlottesville, Virginia,
the paper boutique Rock Paper Scissors came to life. Initially
just a passing desire to find amazing stationery in her
own small town, owner Amy Gardner began paying a lot of
attention to products everywhere she traveled: How were
they printed? What kind of paper were they printed on?
What kind of wrap and ribbon held them together? Back home,
she began paying a lot of attention to her desk: From clean
and sleek organizational necessities to leather wrap journals,
planners and modern gadgets, Amy’s keen eye for well-designed
things (oh, those UVA Architecture School graduates) forced
her to fill the void Charlottesvillians everywhere were
lacking in the desk and modern correspondence department.
People caught on. She immediately hired one of the sweetest
and most talented graphic designers known to mankind so
she could provide affordable invitations (with outstanding
design) to Charlottesville and beyond. She bought custom
binders that that brides-to-be could also peruse, opening
their minds and tastes to far more than traditional paper
options. She completed extensive studies of printing methods,
antique letterpresses, engraving plates and sought out
smaller companies with the same neurotic attention to clean
and creative detail and design. Rock Paper Scissors is
now proud to offer more than 10 binders that brides (as
well as mothers-to-be and party-throwers-to-be) can peruse
specializing in modern letterpress printing, handmade papers
and traditional engraving with a twist.
So many people caught on, in fact, that Rock Paper Scissors
moved into a much larger location in September of 2004.
Oh, and also, created its own custom binder of the most
sought after save-the-date, cocktail party invite, birth
announcement and personalized stationery designs in this
county and the next one over. Our sincere belief in clean
outstanding design, fashionably organized desks and artisan
printing methods for all personal correspondence keeps
us growing into the future. |
